The office of treasurer is a constitutional office. The treasurer serves a four-year term with a two-term limit during any twelve year period. The County Treasurer is the custodian of all monies belonging to the county. Disbursements of monies with the proper orders issued and attested by the County Auditor.
The responsibilities include: Billing and the collection of property taxes (real estate-personal-mobile home); taxes involved in bankruptcy; collection of inheritance tax; gross income tax; innkeepers tax; issuance of tax clearances; mobile homes and alcoholic beverage permits; investment of funds; conducts annual real estate tax sale; the collection of delinquent property taxes and taxes in judgment; and search for and collection of delinquent taxes of public employees.

TAX INFORMATION FOR 2008
Tax Bills for the 2007 pay 2008 tax year will be printed starting the week of August 3rd. Look for them in the mail during the middle of August.
First Installment Due: September 5, 2008
Second Installment Due: November 10, 2008
This year all taxpayers who escrow through mortgage companies will receive a copy of their bill for informational reference only. Also included with each bill will be a special comparison sheet mandated by the state that will compare the previous year to the current year. Please note that in general, reduction in taxes only occured on the properties that had a homestead.

Forms of payment accepted: Cash, Cashier Checks, Personal Checks and Money Orders. No Credit Cards.
Post Marks are accepted
If you mail in your payment make your check payable to Steuben County Treasurer and include all parcel numbers with your check. Include a self addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt.

Mobile Home Permits
Mobile home permits are available in our office. They are used for moving and/or transferring of title. Taxes have to be paid in full before a permit can be issued.
Address Change Information
If you have a change in address please notify our Office or the Auditor's Office.
Tax Payment Deadlines
Taxes are always due May 10th and November 10th, unless this date falls on a holiday or weekend, then the deadline will be the next business day. Dates are subject to change during a reassessment process.
Payment Types
Tax payments may be made by personal check, money order, or cash for the amount due. Drop boxes are available at participating banks. Please check with the bank for any specific instructions and only drop off a personal check or money order. (No cash please)
